Bunhead...

Hi pretties...pardon my absence I've had a busy few weeks! The other night while getting ready for some fun with friends I mentioned my friend Molly has the perfect hair for a sock bun. Let the experimenting begin! My friend Kate has always been gifted a hearing of a hair trend and then....BAM...she does it!

So we cut a sock, I threw my hair in a pony tail, and just rolled. Voila

I apologize for the action shot but I'm afraid it's one of the few I got.

I am obsessed! Not that this is a new trend, bunheads have been walking the streets for a long while but I do see myself taking full advantage of this super easy hair style.

Take a tube sock (preferably unused) and cut the toes off, you can cut anywhere depending on how big you'll want your bun. Then roll the sock so it looks like a doughnut (yum), make sure you curl the ends of your hair under so they don't stick out too much, put the sock at the ends of your ponytail and start rolling. Secure with another hair tie and some bobbi pins and you're set to go.

If you feel weird about wearing a sock on your head you can buy one of these in your hair color

This one is from H&M but drugstores sell them as well!

bb...

Hi pretties! If you follow me on Instagram you may remember this past summer I posting this picture, expressing my excitement...

:: Smashbox camera ready 5-in-1 BB cream w/SPF 35 $39.00 @ Ulta ::

I really like the formula, especially the SPF because I am super lazy when it comes to protecting my face from the sun as seen here last summer after a day at the beach...

:: I learned a hard lesson that day ::

Anyway back to the point, I did really like the Smashbox BB cream but it's extremely expensive so I thought once it's gone I'll try a drugstore brand and compare {easy blog to write yay!} When I was finished I tried Maybelline's take on the product

:: Maybelline Dream Fresh 8-in-1 BB Cream $8.99 @ Ulta ::

I have to be honest I was super psyched that both of these products support my lazy make up application {I blame my mom, she doesn't wear much because she always had great skin} consisting of products like primer, moisturizer, and SPF among others. But the verdict is in as far as my opinion is concerned and the Maybelline BB cream wins out. The Smashbox product was a little more oily than Maybelline's and I have extremely normal skin but anything too oily {or dehydrating for that matter} can wreak havoc on my skin. I usually had to apply a few extra layers of pressed powder {luckily it was Chanel} to get my skin looking more dewy than oily. Maybelline's BB cream wears more like a tinted moisturizer, very light weight and easy to wear.

If you have dry skin Smashbox might be the formula for you if you want to try BB cream but I'd say save yourself some money and try the drugstore brand first!

Instyle advice...

I recently read some good advice in InStyle magazine, I thought I should share. Unfortunately I do not recall who wrote the article but the words of wisdom are as follows, do not waste your money with expensive face cleansers because you quickly wash them off your face and the expensive ingredients go down the drain (along with your $$).

My daily cleanser ::Cetaphil $7.99 at drugstores::

Favorite mask I use 2 x's weekly ::Mario Badescu Healing & Soothing Mask $20 at Ulta::

Night time eye cream ::Roc Skin Care Retinol Correxion $22 at Ulta::

If you're going to invest in prestige face products go for masks and/or lotions {moisturizer, night cream, eye cream etc}, since masks require at least 15 minutes on your face it gives skin time to soak in the ingredients that make the potion expensive {and worth it}. Cetaphil is an amazing cleanser & make-up remover and the bottle is giant for the price {and it's great for girls & boy for those of you with roommates}, it has won numerous awards from all your favorite glossies as a favorite cleanser! Twice a week I use my healing & soothing mask to get extra moisture and fluff off and dead skin. The Roc eye cream has done wonders and is totally worth the money, just a little amount will do and the tube lasts forever.

So save where you can and find a drugstore cleanser that works for your skin and invest in some masks & creams to really do the work to heal any skin bugaboos!

Forsaken...

Evening dolls! I cannot believe I haven't blogged about these boots before but I bought them at the beginning of the season and have gotten so many compliments & so much use out of them. I feel as though I may have taken them for granted a bit.

Zara TRF boots
{originally $89.90 but on sale for $69.90}
::although I don't think they have many sizes left::

They are super comfy despite the heel without a platform and I love the gold detail (surprisingly). These boots have inspired me to wear more gold jewelry & I am not mad at that!

I have hit up a few after Christmas sales as you may be aware and I found the cutest mixed media jacket at H&M! It's wool w/leather sleeves & detailing! It's perfect for going out during this time of year when I'd prefer not to have to hold a coat but it's too cold without one. I generally just style my entire outfit around this jacket!

H&M on sale for $20 {check your local store}

*Note to self- Do not take for granted key pieces anymore!*

Seeing double...

Well sort of... I found some great black and white tuxedo pants on sale at The Limited yesterday and felt a major Blake Lively moment in my future! This shouldn't be surprising considering I am obsessed with her...

pants/The Limited (on sale!!), white collared shirt/Old Navy (old)

necklace/JCrew

heels/Aldo (old)

My inspiration *sigh*
(shirt & pants Lanvin, shoes Gucci)

I love after Christmas sales- the great thing about living in the Midwest is that even though the retail/fashion world is preparing for milder temps, the outside still calls for all the clothes that are on sale :)

As if...

Sex. Clothes. Popularity. Whatever

At the bright young age of 9 years old I saw the film that would ultimately change my life forever. Clueless. I was a child for crying out loud but I was totally relating to Cher Horowitz, her rotating closet, knee high socks, and not wanting to participate in gym.

For Spring 2013 Wildfox created a collection that pays tribute to the film that changed so many. I cannot wait to get my hands on a few pieces. Here is the article that inspired me to write this post...

Let me tell you how obsessed I was with this movie first off, I would cut my tights into knee highs, at which point my mom gave in and just bought me knee high socks. When I couldn't find pens with the puff of feathers at the end I made them myself. Thankfully Claire's (the accessory store)  supplied me with the real deal at some point, and clips for hair with a puff of feathers and you guessed it I wore those too.

Clueless changed me in that, Cher had attitude! She wasn't some damsel in distress and was proud of it, she even criticized Tai for working the angle. She was the definition of self-centered and totally clueless but she was still popular and I wanted to be just like that. Now that I'm grown I see the fault in being self centered and clueless but the attitude part stuck with me.

Oh, but the clothes were to die for. It's kind of funny because that is so not what people were wearing in 1995, Marc Jacobs had taken over with his grunge look but as far as Beverly Hills was concerned the grunge faze only happened to the stoners who hung on the grass knoll. I mean, Cher wore an Alaia to a party in the Valley- she is the definition of "always dress nicer than you think you should"

I inhaled every minute of this movie and can quote from start to finish, and when I watch it now I cannot believe that at such a young age I was even allowed to watch this movie I mean sex, drinking, and drugs it could have been a bad influence. The only negative impact it had on me is that it made me totally obsessed with clothes and that only negatively impacts my wallet! In my mind this movie will never get old and will always be a great indication of why I turned out the way I did. So, thank you Amy Heckerling & Mona May for the brilliance that is Clueless and thank you Wildfox for such an adorable collection that pays great tribute!!

Spring clean...

I guess it's that time of the year to start considering Spring trends (sad news, we all know I am a Fall/Winter girl) but my favorite trend so far is opaque white nail polish! I have been wearing it for a while...

Seen here...

and here...

and as a party nail here...

My favorite is Essie "Blanc" but Chanel "White Satin" is another great shade and Revlon is coming out with a white called "Spirit" just in time for Spring, seen on Karlie Koss here...

(At the Donna Karan Spring 2013 show)

 It may take more than two coats to get an even and opaque manicure and be sure to apply an even amount of pressure, but the patience is so worth it!
